Poster Design

For my digital collage poster concept, I wanted to include both the literal and symbolical meanings of the word 'LEAP'. For that reason, I chose to make the primary focus of the poster a person in an active, mid jump position, alluding to that idea of movement. I also wanted to include a symbol for change, to represent growing up and 'leaping' into our future. With that in mind, I thought of butterflies, because of their metamorphosis and their ability to fly to different places. One of my goals was also to add different elements to represent each ALC profile, leading me to incorporate paint textures (Studio Arts), writing (Literature & Languages), and rolls of film (Cinema Communications and Interactive Media). Lastly, the musical element worked into my poster is a piano keyboard, because I think the keys look like steps, again serving as a symbol of growing up and exploring new things.

As for the visual design, I knew I had quite a few images/ideas to layer in one poster, so I opted for a more neutral colour scheme, using pastel shades and different opacities to ensure the poster did not look too busy. I kept the font a basic white for the same reason. However, I wanted 'LEAP' to stand out, since it is the title of the festival, so I warped it in a way that would make it bold, while also transforming the word into a more dynamic and interesting shape.
